PE Final Assessment

 (Sorry forgot to post it)

PE this year has been great. I feel like my fitness has improved a lot. It has helped my figure out where I stand in terms of physical health and agility as well as teach me how far I can push myself until it's as far as I can go while still being safe with my medical condition. When I think of "the big picture," I think of learning how to listen to your body, push yourself to your personal best without going too far past a healthy limit, learning how to properly work out and overall, feel better about yourself and make better choices to create a healthier, happier lifestyle. In terms of a grade, I would give myself an A because I'm always prepared and put my best effort forward.

My motivation, to be honest, is I'm scared of gaining weight and getting into a habit of being lazy as I get older and also I just like the feeling of knowing that in order to get a body, like the one I'm grateful to have, I have to work for it. For dance I have to be strong and have endurance, which PE has helped me to better achieve this year. I have a medical condition called Reflex Mediated Syncopee, where I don't have a high enough salt intake and my blood pools in my arms and legs, therefore I pass out often and get lightheaded when I try to push myself in physical activities. I hate having a setback that I can't control, it makes me angry because in terms of running, I could be in a way higher level than I am right now. I've learned to find a way to attempt to push myself without getting that feeling like I'm going to pass out. I keep a positive attitude no matter what. I set my standards for myself high because I believe that I will get back to where I was before all of this. Even though I know there is no going back, I give myself hope for motivation to improve.

I have a positive attitude and I always come prepared. I come to class everyday, there have been a few days that I have had to be excused due to appointments or dance. I work out at a level of intensity that pushes me past my limits and only ever have to slow myself down when I know that if I kept going at the intensity I was at I would pass out. I like to bring a positive atmosphere to the class dynamic, I cheer on teammates whenever we play team sports and congratulate others on effort and when it comes to organized activities I try to take the lead in order to get them started up.  Overall I have enjoyed PE and hope to improve my fitness as I move forward in physical activity.

Self Assesment

As of right now in PE with my fitness level, I am happy with where I am at. I participate actively to the best of my abilities every class. I come prepared with the proper attire and I try to be motivational towards all of my peers. I show leadership skills by including others, organizing teams and by helping to move an activity along. I do a lot of physical activity inside and outside of school. I wish I would be able to join more sports like rugby or field hockey, but because of dance I'm not really allowed. I do not eat everything healthy when I am not at school, I have a huge sweet tooth which probably is not a good thing, but I do like eating healthy most of the time. I have a few long term goals with my fitness and one of them is achieving a six-pack by the end of this school year. I am almost there, but I just have to define it more. I would like to improve my endurance for long distance running. I hope I can achieve all of my goals and improve my overall healthy habits.

Melissa's final PE assessment

My grade 9 year in PE has been pretty good. I've had a fairly good attendance record and I always come prepared with a water bottle and full gym strip. I've had difficulties with ongoing injuries for most of the year due to 2 fractures in my left ankle. I was out of PE for about a month, but when I was participating I gave it 100%. I am proud of what I have accomplished this year with my fitness even with the setbacks I've had with injury. I participated even though I probably shouldn't have at some points, but that's because I love working out and staying fit, I hate sitting out of any activity.  I really enjoyed the fitness days this year, especially when we would do the full muscle workouts, for example the P90X videos. Throughout the year I have grown both in my fitness and as a person. I've realized how important it is to stay fit and lead a healthy life style. I've started eating healthier and I now love to workout and be active. I bring a positive attitude to the class, I am responsible, I encourage others, make sure to include everyone and set good examples by never giving up or quitting because I'm tired or some other excuse. I dance over 7 hours a week and I walk to and from school everyday, 30 minutes each way. I am ready for independence because I dance and will keep going with my other physical activities even after PE/ high school is over for me. I have a goal of becoming a dance instructor or an aerobics instructor because I don't see working out as a chore, I see it more as a fun and enjoyable. I think the grade I deserve for my year in PE is an A or at least a high B because I have participated in all activities to the fullest and gave it 100% even with the setbacks of injury. My year in PE has been very enjoyable and Mr.Vaughan has been a great and understanding teacher that has helped me grow in my fitness.

Midterm

During PE this year, how have you shown you are prepared and willing to participate
in a variety of activities?  On what days have you participated to your best effort and
why?  What days have been a struggle for you and why?

This year in PE I have shown that I am prepared and willing to participate in a variety of activities by always bringing appropriate PE strip and having a positive attitude towards learning, beimg active, and striving to reach my goals in fitness. I try to participate to the best of my abilities on fitness days, but i have to admit that sometimes i couldn't do my personal best because of multiple reasons, which most of the time were my injuries and hip problems. The only days that i found to be a struggle were the days when my hips popped out due to my relaxed joints.

How do you contribute to the overall success of the class?  What kind of attitude do
you bring and why?  How do you interact with other students in our class?

I contribute by always having a smile on my face and keeping a positive attitude towards peers, teachers and the overall experience in Active Learning this year. I am friendly and encouraging to all peers in my class and try to interact with as many people as I can.

Describe your participation during fitness days - have you been able to push yourself
physically?  What types of fitness activities do you enjoy the most?  What fitness
goals do you have for the rest of the year?

On fitness days this year I have tried to push myself to the best of my abilities, with the minor setbacks of on and off injuries because of my many hours of physical activity in a week. The fitness activities I enjoy most are intense core and muscle workouts because i have a goal of a six-pack by the end of this year and to tone the other muscles in my body.

What does "leadership" mean to you?  Who are the best leaders in our class - why?
" Leadership " to me means taking responsibility for your actions as well as helping and encouraging others to strive higher. One of the best leaders in our class is Rebecca because she is always so nice and encouraging to everyone, helps out a lot and always brings her best to the class and always sets her expectataions for herself higher each class.

What improvements would you like to make in PE by the end of the year?  What are
you the most proud of so far?

I would like to make improvments in my endurance and strength by the end of this year. I am most proud of my perserverance through my injuries and I am also proud of my overall muscular strenth and flexibility.

Finally, what letter grade A, B, C+, C, C- (gulp) best represents the effort you just described?
I think the best letter grade to give myself after what I have just described would be an A/B because I have given the best I can, but I want to strive to be better as the year goes on and as my injuries recooperate better.
